Nathan Cox

Bio:

Hello, my name is Nathan Cox. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. As far as personal interests, I like to have very diversified hobbies. I enjoy walking around Cleveland and hiking anywhere I can. I like to play all kinds of video games, watch every movie ever made, listen to music everywhere I go, draw a little, and read the occasional fantasy or sci-fi book. Although, I always prefer to do things with friends whether that's playing games like dnd or mahjong, going out around campus, or just hanging out at the dorms and talking. I could go on forever but I think you'd just have to ask me in person if you want to know me better!

Education Summary:

I am a student at Case Western Reserve University. I am currently pursuing a bachelor of science degree in computer science and business management with minors in math, economics, and artificial intelligence. I am also pursuing a master's degree in computer science with a focus on artificial intelligence as a part of CWRU's integrated bachelor's and master's program. I am passionate about using business and technology for social good and world benefit. Some of my academic interests include research on how AI models can be used to model molecular and organic structures to accelerate drug discovery and other scientific research.

Experience Summary:

I have worked at Nothing Bundt Cakes, Beaumont Scout Reservation, and even contributed to some programs here at CWRU. I have worked as a sustainability consultant for the Fowler Center's Business for world benefit program and I have developed programs for my own personal projects and for clubs at CWRU. I have experience coding in many languages including Java, Javascript, Python, html, css, and more. I am good at working with teams.

Projects Summary:

I have worked on many projects both for school and for fun. Some of these include a scavenger hunt website, a couple browser extensions, and some basic homework assignments. Some of the projects I have completed are displayed on the projects page.

Education

I have received education(in the most robotic of terms) from Communion of Saints; Saint Ann(K-2nd grade), Campus International School(3-8th grade), Campus International High School(9-12th grade), and most importantly Case Western Reserve University(2024 - Present). However, I am also a very intrinsically motivated person and have sought out resources and ways to learn on my own throughout my whole life.

I have performed very well academically here at CWRU, making Dean's High Honors in two semesters. I have also taken incredible courses here taught by some truly great people. My first semester here I took programming in Java with Harold Connamacher which taught me how to look at assignments from the perspective of a computer scientist to analyze and fully understand what I was doing, why, and how. In my second semester I took introduction to data structure with Andrew Watkins which taught me many different things ranging from manipulation of data: searching and sorting, hashing, recursion and higher order functions to abstract data types, templating, and the separation of interface and implementation. In my third semester I took logic design, discrete math, and linear algebra with Evren Cavusoglu, Shuai Xu, and Anuj Abhishek respectively and this is where I really started learning about how to design for computer systems in a mathematical and precise way.

Experience

While here at CWRU, I have also participated in the Fowler Center's Business for World Benefit program where I acted as a sustainability consultant from 2024 to the present. I've worked with companies from around the world including Got Produce, Lock-In Billiards, RedHouse Studio and Rocket Arena to research sustainable solutions. I demonstrated my professional business conduct working with companies alongside graduate students and at a time acting as a consulting group leader. My work at the clinic has helped many businesses reach their goals for local and global engagement and benefit.

In the summer between high school and college I started working for Beaumont, the boy scout camp my troop and I went to when I was younger. There I acted as the handicraft director for the 2024 and 2025 summer seasons. I created fourteen programs in my area to provide better memorable for the scouts participating. I worked well with others in every position at the reservation to make many of the events on property happen and to improve the experience of those who visited. I greatly contributed to our mission to prepare the scouts for life and provide fun experiences for them.

I started working as soon as I could in high school at Nothing Bundt Cakes. I continued to work there frosting cakes from April 2021 until I graduated high school in May 2024. I exceeded expectations in meeting all of Nothing Bundt Cakes's core values, working well with others, and putting an abundance of effort into the quality of every order.

Projects

This is the tab that explains what I've done for projects and how that has prepared me for internships and jobs in the future as well as listing them all out with necessary links and descriptions.

This website is one project that I have worked on and you can find the repository here: https://github.com/goldendog36/nathancox.com

I am a part of the big games club at CWRU and specifically I am on the scavenger hunt committee. I help build and maintain the scavenger hunt website where the game is run through. You can find the repository here: https://github.com/cwru-big-games/scav-site

I have also worked on some smaller things like these two browser plug-ins that I thought were funny. Both just make a pop-up of a picture of one of my prfessors but in different ways. Xu level: https://github.com/goldendog36/Xu_Level Tran Time: https://github.com/goldendog36/Tran_Time

I've done many small coding projects for my classes but one that I think stands out a little is this echo server host and client that I made for my computer networks class. You can find the repository and a better description of it here: https://github.com/goldendog36/Echo_Server
